There's only a small number of books on Indonesian film. Most of the books are novel adapted from a film script, film script, personal memoir, article anthology, and catalogue.Some of those publications describe merely the history of film without linking to the context of arts and political transformation in a certain era.
Considering the fact, this book, crisis and paradox of Indonesian Film, is written in a bid to sum up the tendency of transformation of form, production method, distribution, and appreciation in relation with the change in constellation of economy, politics, arts, and pop culture development in Indonesia. A Film, somehow, is'no more than one of the pop culture formats that could hardly be segregated from other sectors development along with the nation development in 1900-2012 periods in wich is elaborated within six chapters.
Indonesian people cope with globalization several times such as capital and plantation administration (1900), fabricated imported product (1970-1985), and economic liberatlization (1985-1998).there were several domestic conflicts of politics and ideology in many kinds of periods, namely independence era (1930-1950), communism annihilation (1950-1970), fredom and radicalism (1998-2012)globalization and ideology classhes here influence the constellation of economy, politycs, pop culture, and surely film.
all stories linking up the history of national film drift from one pole of crisis and paradox. a history recurs over and over. The dynamic of film in inseparable from the development of economic, politic, and popular culture Indonesia.Personal experrinces of the writers who engaged with the aforementioned contexs serve as a highlight of the stiry and analysis in this book.
