The emergence of The Artist Village introduced a new form of aesthetics in Singapore art, then heralded as an "alternative aesthetics" to mainstream formalistic art. As the alternative new forms the mainstream, and as contemporary art proceeds to privilege issue-based trajectories, nature inspired art must seem anachronistic, out of sync with developments in contemporary trends where intropection is seemingly secondary to extroversion, emotion and sensousness are subordinated to ideas and concept, and the poetry of autonomy to the prose of social relevance and theoritical ciritique.
