Festifal Kesenian Yogyakarta diselenggarakan satu tahun sekali sebagai wahana kreatifitas dan menampung kreatifitas masyarakat yogyakarta ayang mempertimbangkan situasi dan kondisi terkini yang berhubungan dengan seni, budaya,sosial, dan ekonomi.Tema FKY XX 2008 adalah " Masa Lalu Selalu Baru"rnrnThe catalogue was published after the conduction of the edition XX of Festival Kesenian Yogyakarta (FKY) in 2008. It presents the festival’s theme “Masa Lalu Selalu Baru: The Past is New”, translated as an effort to recall historical memories and traditions, in such that “traditions always develop, today is the mirror of the past and the past is the stepping point to act in the future” (from the Preface by Sebuah Pengantar).rnrnFKY XX 2008 understood itself as an artistic people festival that belongs to Yogyakarta society entirely, with a focus on performing arts. The three main programs of the festival were Babad Kampung (Kampong’s History), the Musical Theater “Deleilah Tak Ingin Pulang dari Pesta” (Deleilah Don’t Wanna Go Home from the Party”), and the International Program. rnDuring a three months collaboration process Babad Kampung involved the communities of 9 kampongs in Yogyakarta to recall traditions and to perform art and culture potentials settling in their kampong. The Musical Theater “Deleilah”, a commissioned project for FKY XX 2008, is described as a breakthrough in the vocabulary of performing arts practice in Yogyakarta. It involved the participation of a group of transvestites to take role in the performance. The International Program is described as a dialogue space between activists and artists in Yogyakarta and the international art scene. FKY collaborated with cultural organizations (both domestic and international), foreign embassies and artists individually considered holding related profiles with the theme of FKY XX 2008. Participating countries were the Netherlands, France, India and Japan. rnrnPasar Raya (Festival Fair) was conducted in order to promote products and activities of supporting communities and institutions and responds to art development from an economical standpoint.
