Art Worlds: 25th Anniversary Edition Updated and Expanded
In "art worlds" Becker examines the art world from a sociological point of view. The book explores the cooperative network of suppliers, performers, dealers, critics and consumers, that are important key players and jointly responsible for the "production" and "reception" of an artwork. His investigation of the collective social actions and the cultural contexts in which an artwork is produced had immense impact on the way to think about the sociology of art. The updated and expanded version of the first in 1982 published book includes now a dialogue between Becker and French sociologist Alain Pessin about the extended social system in which art is produced.
